Arolithos is a unique traditional private cretan village. It is built on the slope of a mountain, in the wild landscape of Crete. The village is a popular sightseeing in Crete. It creates memories of past times to the older people, while it shows to younger guests the simplicity and the beauty of the past. Arolithos is a family run business. Our aim is to resent the Cretan tradition, the ethics and customs of the region, the architecture and the values of Cretan people. Arolithos is a hotel that represents a cretan village with its various aspects, such as the workshops of cretan arts, the shops, the hotel, the tavern, the restaurant, the Folklore museum, the church, the traditional oven, the cafeteria and the cafe. Crossing the narrow streets, our visitors will have the chance to see the genuine Traditional weavings on looms and the handmade embroidering. At the restaurant we organize the popular Cretan nights, a show with folklore dances and music from all over Greece. At the weekends are organized several social events marriages, baptisms which are related to local people who celebrate for a special occasion. At our restaurant we also host receptions of special groups incentives. An indispensable part of Arolithos is the hotel section which consists of thirty-five rooms. All the rooms of the hotel have an A/C and a balcony with view over the mountains. The hotel is open all year round. the folkore museum is a cultural collection of great interest because of the variety of the exhibits and their close relations to the civilization of Crete. |

Location
Arolithos is a small, charming, picturesque village near Heraklion. It is situated outside Heraklion, between the village Gazi and Tilissos. It lies on hill among carob trees and it has a beautiful view over the valley of Heraklion with the vineyards and the olive trees and the wild mountains of Crete. The hotel consists of many small houses which were constructed in the traditional architecture of Crete. Arolithos reminds us of how Crete was many years ago. The village consists of the hotel, the taverna, the restaurant, the Folklore Museum, the small shops of cretan products and the workshops of cretan arts. There is also a cafeteria, a traditional style cafe and the small church. At the restaurant of the village we organize several social events and shows with folklore dances. |
Directions
HERAKLION
From the airport of Heraklion you follow the new National road towards Heraklion-Rethimnon. After the traffic lights you keep driving to the same direction. On your way you will meet two turns to the right. At the second turn where the signs indicate the way to GAZI and ANOGIA you turn to the right. Then you keep following the signs that lead to ANOGIA. Following the way up you will find us at your right hand side.
City Center
If you are at the city of Heraklion, the starting point could be the Elefterias Square, which is close to archeological museum at the city center. Please follow the Dikeossinis Street and continue straight. Enter the Kalokerinou avenue and continue all the way down up to Porta Hanion. Please pass the big bridge and continue straight. You will then enter 62 Martiron avenue and drive all the way straight. When you reach a junction keep going straight i.e. do not follow the way to Carefour. After a while you will find village GAZI and keep going straight towards village ANOGIA. After some minutes you will find us at your right hand side.
Rethimnon-Chania
If you are driving on the New National Road then as you approach Heraklion you will come across a turn to the right. The signs there show a direction to the village GAZI or ANOGIA. Please turn and follow the way to ANOGIA. Following the way up you will find us at your right hand side.If you are on the old national road then you will find us 11 kilometers before Heraklion on your left hand side.
